Violent Liberation

A poem by Anoosha Lalani

She has wings.
But, they grow inside her.
They encompass her heart
And move through her bones,
Splintering them apart
She is free,
She thinks.
But knows,
Not truly.

Anoosha Lalani spends half of her life, studying accounting at McGill and the other half writing. Her novel, The Keepers, was released by REUTS Publications in September 2014 and her short story has appeared in the Beyond the Binding Anthology, funds for which went toward supporting victims of the typhoon in the Philippines in 2011. You may also find her occasionally co-running the poetry blog, Ink Soldiers.
